Wootz Short Saber with Mokume, Pheasantwood, and Amboyna
Wootz Short Saber with Mokume, Pheasantwood, and Amboyna
This small saber is the happy result of an unfortunate incident several months ago. At that time I was working on a pair of custom kilic blades, and one of the blades cracked in the quench. Due to the way in which it cracked I was able to cut it into two pieces and rework those pieces into new blades. This saber is made from the “base” of that blade (tang to just below the yelman).
Here are a few pieces of info that aren’t obvious from the photos:
-this blade has a very nice hamon (hardening line), which is very subtle in the etch but could be revealed more strongly with the appropriate polish. The pattern visibility varies somewhat due to the active hamon.
-the handle, while appearing “chunky”, is actually incredibly comfortable and indexes extremely well in the hand.
-this is a “take down” construction, meaning that it can be fully disassembled if so desired. The pommel nut is a screw that attaches to the tang, so everything below the guard can be fully removed just by taking out the pommel nut. The guard and “habaki” can slide clear of the blade at that point (sufficient for polishing and sharpening), or an additional pin can be removed so those pieces can be fully freed.
Materials: wootz, bronze, copper/iron mokume, stabilized pheasantwood, stabilized amboyna.

The pricing includes shipping within the USA and I STRONGLY encourage international buyers to have it shipped to a friend within the USA. International shipping is becoming more complicated and expensive day by day. The likelihood of international shipments being sent back or confiscated is higher than ever.
As always, it is up to the buyer to comply with local laws and regulations regarding type of weaponry allowed as well as any age restrictions.
