This small kard is forged from a wootz formulation that includes phosphorus, which was an element often seen in the blades made outside of India. Phosphorus can do interesting things to the pattern, but wootz that contains much of the element must be treated differently during forging and heat treating. This means that I heat treat phosphorus-wootz blades such as this kard in a fashion that produces a somewhat softer edge hardness while yielding a very tough and durable tool.
