16" Wootz Honyaki Wakizashi

$1,000.00

This wakizashi blade is forged from my own wootz steel, specifically from an ingot that was formulated to mimic the hardenability of traditional Japanese steels. It has very low alloy levels and a carbon content of roughly 1.6%, which is obviously higher than what we normally see in traditional Japanese blades. This blade was clay-coated and water-quenched to create the hamon that is clearly visible in the photographs. I chose to polish and etch this blade, a finish that tends to accentuate the carbide banding while muting the details of the hamon. The buyer might choose to have the blade refinished by a professional Japanese polisher if they prefer to accentuate the hamon rather than the carbide banding. In that case the banding would still be visible, but would be less prominent.

This blade is not currently sharpened, but can be delivered sharpened if desired. Price includes shipping within the USA.

Blade Length: 420mm

Blade Width: 38mm
